The key focus of the Computing and IT Department is employability. In other words providing you with the skills, knowledge and qualifications you need to gain viable employment. The Department works closely with national and local employers to get a feel for the skills and qualifications they are looking for in candidates.
January 2009 courses available now
Motherwell College Computing and IT courses give students the best of two worlds - academic qualifications with professional qualifications built in, for example Microsoft, Oracle and CompTIA. This gives our students the edge when it comes to applying for jobs. All courses offer hands on experience as well as academic study.
It is widely perceived that the UK IT industry has a problem when it comes to recruiting women. Motherwell College ensures that both men and women have equal skills, experience and confidence to enter the IT industry and access the many lucrative and exciting jobs in this field. 53% of Motherwell College's computing and IT students are female. And our Student of the Year winners for 2006 and 2007 were all female so, we are bucking the trend and hoping to attract even more females into IT in the next year.
Noreen Cook, the Computing and IT Further Education Student of the Year for 2007, said: "I had been out of school for a long time and needed to know how to use a computer to get a decent job. I enrolled for the Computing & IT Level 1 course at Motherwell College and enjoyed the course as it involved many different options. I am now undertaking an HNC in Computing and would like to carry on and go as far as I can. I would thoroughly recommend the course."
