Motherwell College's Animation, Media and Design Section offers many benefits to learners on top of a first class learning experience.
Many opportunities are provided for students to work on "live" projects. In 2007 this included designing websites for local businesses and community organisations and a Filmcraft and Animation student has been commissioned to produce an animated short feature film, which will be shown in the visitor centre at The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour, a tourist attraction, which welcomes visitors from around the globe.
The Department also has a reputation for providing training that meets the needs of employers, making students highly desirable employees on completion of their studies. Students leaving the section in 2007 have already secured a range of jobs. And while students are undertaking their studies, work placements are arranged when possible. The Department also incorporates educational visits within the curriculum.
Many students wish to pursue further study following their college courses and the Department supports this transition. Articulation to year 3 of many university courses are guaranteed for students on completion of the majority of HND programmes. In 2007 former students from the department who progressed to university gained degrees with distinction and won university prizes.
The Department boasts staff with an exceptionally high level of expertise and professional experience. In 2007 the Department worked in partnership with Autodesk and SQA as part of a national project entitled DIVA. The Department is the lead centre for rolling out the use of Autodesk software and delivering training for the FE sector in Scotland.
