Offender Learning, Skills and Employability Services in Establishments
In line with the College’s contract with the Scottish Prison Service, staff currently provide programmes in Literacy, Numeracy, IT, Art and Employability. In detail the curriculum includes:
- Information, advice and guidance services, assessment and development of Individual Learning Plans
- Literacy, communications and language skills
- Numeracy and mathematical skills
- ICT skills
- The arts and personal and social development
- Distance learning and open learning (via the Open University and other partners)
- Support for vocational training
- Preparation for release and resettlement

All delivery is subject to inspection by Her Majesty’s Inspector of Education (HMIe) under subcontract to Her Majesty’s Inspector of Prisons (HMIP).
The learning and skills service is available to all prisoners, including those on remand. On average between 30% and 45% of prisoners in custody engage with the learning centres at some point in their sentence.
