Childcare

We understand that suitable childcare is an important factor for many people considering college. We offer one of Scotland's finest childcare facilities, making it even easier for you to study with us. Firtrees Nursery is situated on campus in a pleasant leafy setting, only metres away from the main College building. It offers a secure environment with fully trained staff to ensure the wellbeing and development of your child. The Nursery accommodates children from 6 weeks - 5 years old, with separate areas for each age group. 5-16 year-olds can attend Before and After School Clubs, and a Summer Holiday Club is also available for 5-12 year olds. Childcare may be free or subsidised depending on your circumstances. To apply for childcare please complete and return a childcare application form to our Freepost Address (see childcare application form).

Library/Learning Centre

Within the Library/Learning Centre you will find a wide range of resources including books, newspapers, magazines, DVDs and online databases to help you during your time at college. A quiet study area, video and DVD viewing facilities, photocopier and access to PCs and the Internet make the Centre an ideal place to work.

Both students and members of the community can use the centre, which is linked to North Lanarkshire Council's Public Library Service, giving you access to a wider collection of resources. During term time the centre is open Monday and Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm, Tuesday to Thursday 8.30am - 8pm.

Free and Unlimited Email and Internet

Once enrolled at Motherwell College, you have free and unlimited email and Internet access while you study. We have over 700 computers available and you can access this service during the day or evening. If you are new to IT, you can receive free basic training at one of our Learndirect centres within the College or local community.

Students' Association

The Students' Association is the student voice within Motherwell College. At the start of term each year Student Committee Representatives are elected for a range of roles. Once enrolled, the Students' Association gives you the chance to contribute to discussions on the big decisions affecting the College and your studies. Class Representatives are also elected for each area of study. Joining the Students' Association Committee is a great way for you to enhance your CV, gain new skills and meet lots of interesting people. All student reps receive training and support through the sparqs (Student Participation in Quality Scotland) programme, to ensure that you are able to carry out the roles you have been elected for effectively. The Students' Association also has a games room with pool tables and PS2s available, and a lounge area where you can relax between classes.
