Financial Help
Over 70% of our students do not pay fees and those who do may receive financial help. We understand that your financial circumstances are individual and have experts on hand to help and advise you.
Call or drop in to discuss your funding options and receive professional advice to ensure you receive all the funding you are entitled to. As a general guide, here are some key facts about funding:
Further Education Funding
If you plan to study a National Qualification (NQ), Scottish Group Award (SGA), Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) or any other non-advanced Further Education course, you can apply for a Bursary or Educational Maintenance Allowance using our Bursary Application Form.
Higher Education Funding
If you plan to study a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) course, you can apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS). They will assess your entitlement to fees and Student Loan funding. If you have dependants, are a lone parent or have a disability, you may also qualify for a supplementary grant. For more information visit www.saas.gov.uk or telephone 0845 111 1711.
Free Part-time Study
If you plan to study part-time and are eligible for welfare benefits, you could be entitled to have your tuition fees waived. If you wish to apply for a fee waiver, you are required to show evidence that you are in receipt of benefits. Please bring this proof along when you enrol. If you are a senior citizen in receipt of state benefits, you could be eligible for a 25% discount and tuition fees may be waived if you are in receipt of supplementary benefits. More information about the fee waiver application process will be provided at enrolment.
Hardship and Welfare Funds
You can receive help with accommodation, childcare, equipment or travel costs. Information and application forms are available from the College's Student Services team.
Payment by Instalment
Over 70% of our students do not pay course fees. Those who do can choose to make payments in instalments.
If you are required to pay fees when studying, it is worth knowing that ILA Scotland could provide you with up to £200 to cover part or all of your course cost.
Individual Learning Accounts (ILA Scotland)
If you are over 18, living in Scotland and earning £18,000 a year or less, you can apply for an ILA that will provide up to £200 a year towards learning something new. Or, if you earn more than £18,000 a year, you can apply for an ILA that will give you up to £100 a year to put towards a range of courses to build and improve your skills. Whatever course you decide on, you need to make sure that you have applied for your ILA and have received your account card and number before booking a course. You cannot use your funds to pay for a course that you have already booked or which has already started.
You can study with a range of learning providers who are approved by ILA Scotland, and many part-time and evening courses are eligible for ILA Scotland funding. You simply pay a minimum £10 contribution for every course using your account from ILA Scotland. No matter which account you are eligible for, the money is not a loan, so you won't be asked to pay it back.
Motherwell College is a registered ILA Scotland Learning Provider. Once you have opened your account with ILA Scotland you can access a wide range of our courses. To find out more, and to register, call the ILA Scotland helpline on 0808 100 1090 or visit www.ilascotland.org.uk. You must open your account with ILA Scotland prior to the start date of the course. You should note that the £100 offer can only be used for certain courses specified by ILA Scotland and cannot be used for leisure courses. Please contact us for more information.
