At your service, whatever your needs

Excellent Services

Motherwell College provides many excellent services to support our students. You will find that help is at hand throughout your studies, whatever your needs.

Your Tutor

You are allocated a course tutor at the start of your course. Your tutor carries out the initial course induction and is available for ongoing guidance and support throughout your time at college. Your tutor is the first point of contact should you wish to discuss any issues about your course.

Advice, Guidance and Counselling

Student Services staff can help with all matters relating to your course or personal wellbeing. Support is provided on funding, childcare, transport, accommodation and any other issues that may affect your progress. Confidential appointments can be arranged with a range of specialist staff, including Careers Advisers, Student Advisers and Counsellors. For further information, contact 01698 232327 or 01698 232470.

Help with Reading, Writing and Numeracy

You need core skills in many situations in life, at work and while studying. There are five core skills that you will develop at college. These are spoken and written communication, numeracy, problem solving, information technology skills and working with others.

Additional Learning Support

At Motherwell College you will receive excellent support, particularly if you have additional learning needs or disabilities. Our aim is to provide support appropriate to your needs that will help you succeed in your chosen course. You will have the opportunity to discuss your individual learning needs with our expert student support staff and identify any additional resources you may require. You may need help with study skills, note taking, essay planning/writing or organisation of course-related work. Or you may require specialised equipment such as magnifiers, radio aids or course materials in alternative formats, such as large print. For further information, call us on 01698 232339 or 01698 232470.

Personal Care Partnership

If you have additional care needs, we can provide you with personal care and additional supervision. We assess your additional care needs and agree upon the correct support service with you before you start your course. We have a pool of qualified support staff large enough to meet all of your daily needs or you can bring your own support workers with you. We aim to provide the most efficient and cost effective service we can and Social Work Resources can help you fund any costs involved in the Personal Care Partnership.

Call us on 01698 232594 to arrange a meeting when we can discuss your personal care needs. You will receive full details of this agreed service in writing along with your conditional offer of a place at College.

Princes Trust Scotland Team Programme

The Prince's Trust programme is a 12-week personal and social development course, facilitated by Motherwell College. The College operates six teams per year in Hamilton and Rutherglen that are located in South Lanarkshire Council's Universal Connections premises. The programme is designed to develop participants' confidence, enhance leadership skills, improve personal motivation and provide guidance and support in identifying learners' next steps. During the 12-week programme, students undertake a series of community and personal challenges while receiving support to seek future work, education or training opportunities. Designed to complement our other college courses, the Prince's Trust team programme can be undertaken before or after other courses, or, in certain circumstances, if you have had to leave your course.
