Motherwell College's Social Sciences and Languages Sections are at the forefront in Scotland, with a dedicated team of professionals delivering the very latest version of all courses in modern facilities. If you would like to develop your language and workplace skills to the highest possible standard, Motherwell College is your first choice.
Our staff keep abreast of current developments in the fast changing field of social sciences, working closely with awarding bodies. The curriculum has been developed to ensure students have the opportunity to study a broad range of social science subjects. In 2007 students had the opportunity to participate in educational visits relevant to their studies. This included visits to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh and to the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The Social Sciences team prides itself on being able to respond quickly to the needs and interests of learners. Quick to recognise an upsurge of interest in criminology the department introduced new classes in this subject within the HND Social Sciences in 2006. These classes incorporate speakers from the field, educational visits and discussions. For anyone wishing to pursue a career in criminology, our HND in Social Sciences can give access to year 2 of a criminology degree, as well as year 2 or 3 of a social sciences degree.
Within the sphere of languages, the College has been building on the success of our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses which proved more popular than ever in 2007. The College also offers HN Units in French and Spanish throughout the year as well as Intermediate 1 Spanish for those of you who would like to enhance your employability prospects by improving your foreign language skills.
