"I decided to study Sports Coaching as it was something I was always interested in. I felt that going to college showed me a different side to coaching as the course covered all aspects of sport and fitness. Studying at Motherwell College helped develop my confidence and I hope to use my HND in Sports Coaching to pursue my career."

Students joining the Department in 2008 will benefit from a wide and varied curriculum. When it comes to selecting subjects and sports to study, students have a better choice than ever before. The curriculum now includes swimming, orienteering, exercise to music, softball and baseball alongside the more traditional sports.

A vast amount of teaching is delivered in specialist facilities such as outward-bound and leisure centres which help develop your problem solving and core skills. As a student you will also have the opportunity to participate in residential trips and educational visits.

If you aspire to university you will be delighted to know the Sport and Fitness Department have extensive and close links with universities to ensure progression from college courses to degree programmes.

This department prides itself on offering students a truly vibrant and exciting curriculum. The Sport and Fitness Department plays a key role in the community, promoting fitness for mature movers, as well as being actively engaged in regeneration projects aimed at getting more young people into careers in sport and fitness. Several SPL football clubs are now using the services of the Department. The Department helps students focus on careers by maintaining strong industry links and including specific work experience placements.
