Community Learning
We offer many courses in local community-based venues throughout North and South Lanarkshire allowing you to study close to home at a time that suits you. Venues include schools and community centres and many courses offer childcare assistance. Community-based courses appeal especially to beginners and are often free of charge or provided at a subsidised cost.
If you are active in your community the College may be able to support you and your group. The College can provide a range of programmes or one off workshops in a wide variety of subject areas such as: Beauty Therapy, Cookery, Sport and Fitness, Care, Computing & IT, Automotive, Business, Creative Arts or Engineering.
For information on community courses or learning opportunities telephone Community Liaison Officer, Stuart Matson on 01698 232686 or use the following link to search for current community programmes delivered in your area.
Adult Literacy and Numeracy
The ALNIS (Adult Literacy and Numeracy in Scotland) report, published in 2001, highlighted the need to develop provision of literacy and numeracy learning at all levels of society. As part of a Scottish Executive initiative and in partnership with North and South Lanarkshire Councils, the College is committed to providing support both to students and members of the wider community. Within the College, the Literacy and Numeracy team works closely with Core Skills and Student Support staff to ensure that students’ literacy and numeracy needs are met. Our aim is to support students in improving their reading, writing and number skills, enabling them to be independent learners within College and beyond. If you would like support in these areas, please call Susan Doherty, 01698 232441 or Anne Thomas, 01698 232315.
Additional Learning Needs
If you think you might need additional support for your course because of a disability or medical condition, the college may be able to provide additional support such as note-takers, readers, communication support or equipment such as spell checkers, portable note-takers or tape recorders. Contact your tutor, or the Student Advice Centre for further information.
